How long does it take to learn an American accent? Most adult learners need several months of structured, daily training to make a clear change in their American accent. Students of Prof. Alex, Ph.D. Accent Coach, Doctor of Education, and professional linguist, who trained in the InPronunci Premium Plan moved from about 60 to the mid-80s out of 100 (100 = native speaker) in 5 to 9 months. The timeline depends on your first language, your starting level, and how consistently you train.

What affects how long it takes to learn an American accent?

  1. Your first language. For example, sounds that do not exist in your first language take longer to train.
  2. Your starting level. In general, students starting around 60/100 still have many sounds and rhythm patterns to retrain.
  3. Daily consistency. In other words, short daily sessions build new speech habits better than occasional long ones.
  4. Training method. Prof. Alex’s doctoral research found interactive, student-centered instruction more effective than traditional, teacher-centered instruction. InPronunci places the student in a student-centered, active role: you listen, analyze, compare, adjust and practice again.

How long American accent training takes for learners worldwide

InPronunci is for adult English learners and foreign-born professionals who want clear American pronunciation: engineers, healthcare workers, IT specialists, business professionals, ESL students, and anyone preparing for job interviews or presentations. Moreover, learners train online from the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, India, and East Asia, on iPhone, Android, and computer. Because the timeline depends on your first language, the course trains each American sound step by step:

  1. Chapter I: Speech organs and articulation (free)
  2. Chapter II: American consonants
  3. Chapter III: American vowels
  4. Chapter IV: American intonation and emphasis

The first step is free: start Chapter I of InPronunci and record your first exercise with the AI Accent Coach.
